UiT granted 30 MNOK to VirtualStain project

We start 2020 with great news! The nanoscopy group at UiT have obtained funding through the highly competitive UiT Tematiske satsinger as part of the project “Artificial intelligence solutions to virtually stain label-free cell and tissue images for studying cardiovascular diseases of fish and mammals”. The fund of 30 million NOK will support label-free nanoscale imaging of living fish and mammalian heart cells for understanding the mechanisms of dealing with stress.

The project, also referred to as VirtualStain, is led by the Department of Computer Science at UiT and is an interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists coming from different fields such as artificial intelligence, photo-acoustic imaging, cardiovascular biology, and biofisheries.

Congratulations!
